Professional Development in DEI and Online Pedagogy: I will pursue professional development opportunities focused on inclusive teaching, equity in STEM education, and effective online instruction. My goal is to continuously implement evidence-based strategies that improve both access and outcomes for underrepresented students.
Inclusive and Equitable Online Learning: I aim to continue refining my courses to ensure they are accessible and inclusive for all students, including those from diverse backgrounds and learning needs. This includes designing materials that accommodate various learning styles and offering multiple ways for students to engage with content.
Guest Speakers and Workshops in online environment: During in-person teaching, I have invited guest speakers in fields relevant to student career goals. This has been received with enthusiasm from students eager to ask questions. Due to ongoing time constraints, it was difficult to schedule this for current online course development. However, I have thought extensively about ways to incorporate this in an asynchronous course.
Due to the asynchronous nature of my current Anatomy and Physiology course, I plan or requesting student-submitted questions for healthcare professionals to allow students to learn from professionals that share similar career paths as them.
I would collect questions from students ahead of time via discussion boards or surveys.
Use these questions to guide the recorded interview or live session, ensuring students’ interests are addressed. This keeps students engaged even if they can’t attend live sessions.
Recorded Interviews or Panels
Record interviews with professionals in nursing, healthcare, or related fields, or host live virtual panels via Zoom/Teams.
Recordings allow flexibility for students in asynchronous courses and can be reused in future semesters.
My current goal is to have four guest professionals for one full-length semester. This allows one session every 3–4 weeks, giving students time to engage with the content, while keeping recordings manageable for myself and digestible for students without losing focus on the Anatomy and Physiology Content.
